Obituary

Dr. Stephen R. Voydat, born June 7, 1927 in Queens New York passed away Saturday September 3rd, 2016 from complications of Alzheimer’s, he was 89 years old.  Stephen and his brother Mitchell (deceased) were the sons of Stephen and Adeline Voydat, who both migrated to the US from Poland in the early 1900’s. He attended Columbia University (pre-Med) on an athletic scholarship. Dr. Voydat was an excellent athlete, playing both Baseball and Basketball. He was drafted by the NY Yankees organization as a first baseman, but was drafted at the same time into the US Army for WWII, where he served as a medic in Germany. He helped liberate several Concentration camps by providing medical services to victims and troops. After the war, he returned to New York and attended NYU, Medical School where he graduated with a degree of Medicine in Anesthesia in 1953.
During his studies at NYU, Stephen met the love of his life, Marian Adams, his future wife and life partner. They married in 1955, and moved to Los Altos Hills, California in the mid 50’s where he helped found the Anesthesia department at El Camino Hospital. Together they raised their 4 children, Linda Voydat (deceased), Stephen Voydat, Robert Voydat, and James Voydat(Sherri). Dr. Voydat was blessed with 5 grandchildren, Alyssa, Andrew, Connor, Tylor, and Lauren.
Dr. and Mrs. Voydat were avid tennis players, winning countless tournaments both locally and internationally. In 1974, Dr. Voydat won the World’s Doctor’s Open Title in Chamonix France. Together they won the Husband/Wife national tennis championships three times in the late ‘70’s and early ‘80s. They never boasted about these accomplishment, but they were indeed quite fond of their trophy wall.
Stephen’s greatest joys were found in participating in his children’s, and later his grandchildren’s lives and adventures. He loved to watch Linda on her horses, or the boys in any number of sporting events. Later in life, he spent most of his time traveling and attending his grandchildren’s activities. It always brought him joy to understand the journey his parents had taken and how all of their and his efforts had created such a warm and loving environment so that his kids and grandkids could grow up in such a great place with unlimited opportunities.
His life was truly the embodiment of the American Dream. Growing up with nothing but love and a hard work ethic, enabled him to live and achieve all the things one can dream of, and much more. Rest in peace Dad. We love you forever and always.
