Cupcake War

So, let me tell you the tale of the cupcake wars.

Long, long ago (yesterday) there were two clashing factions (Me vs. G'pa).  Faction Minecraft Cupcake(MC) wanted nothing more than to turn out 24 cupcakes for a young boy for his birthday celebration.  Faction I-like-green-fondant(ILGF) wanted nothing more than to thwart Faction Minecraft Cupcake.

Faction MC needed extra space to work on the aforementioned cupcakes so she spread out on one end of the dining room table, far, far away from Faction ILGF.  Thinking said cupcakes were perfectly safe from roving bands of Faction ILGF, Faction MC set to work rolling out green fondant.  Faction ILGF asked  what Faction MC was doing and cautiously Faction MC replied.  (Faction MC is wary of Faction ILGF at all times around food.)  Twice Faction ILGF started to pull the table cloth towards his end and twice Faction MC stopped the potential land grab.  Faction MC finally decided a large paper clip was necessary to keep her side from going over a cliff.

Faction MC decided to lob Faction ILGF a chocolate bar to  distract them from possible incursion into Faction MC territory.  But, alas, Faction MC needed ammunition.  Quickly (10 seconds people) Faction MC hurried to get said ammo.  Arriving back to lock and load distraction candy bar Faction MC found Faction ILGF with a mouthful of green fondant.

NOOOOOOooooooo!!!

This act of war required Faction ILGF to stand up, reached clear across the table, grab fondant and sit down within 10 seconds.  Who knew at almost 89 Faction ILGF had it in him.  And, to add insult to the attack, Faction ILGF spit out green fondant and said, "This tastes terrible!".  Seriously?

All was not lost.  Faction MC hurled a salvo distraction and it worked.  Damage was complete with regards to the green fondant but Faction MC had a backup batch.  The day was not lost.

And the Answer is.... Elephant?

Home Goods is a parade for the senses.
Grandpa found JUST the THING for the kids!
An Elephant.
Uh-huh.

Grandpa Explaining in detail why the kids needed THIS elephant.

"Are you kidding me?"
(Response to me saying, "I don't think so.")

After I told him I would buy it for him to
take to Morningside.
"My Mother would hate it.", then he laughed.

LIVE! (from the backseat)

Steve and I took Lauren to guitar.
On the way home she regaled us with her latest tunes.

That's as close to a smile as I was getting.

This one said, "She's good!"

Yes, she is.

Can I Pull This Off?

I don't know about this.

Can I pull off a Mohawk at my age? Hmmmm???

That's better!  I look great!

Always modest.  Always.... :-)

Practically Twins!

Okay, so you know how twins will:

1.  Run in opposite directions just when it is least convenient?
2.  Talk at the same time so you don't understand either of them?
3.  Conspire for maximum mayhem?
4.  Want completely different snacks?
5.  Be so completely adorable you can't help but smile?

Grandpa made a fast friend and cohort!

My 88 year old toddler with HIS friend, Little A a 2 year old toddler.

At The Carwash ...

Laughing through the
whole wash cycle.

Steve loves this place
At the Carwash

AT THE CARWASH
Ooh ooh
You might not ever get rich
But let me tell ya it's better than diggin' a ditch
There ain't no tellin' who you might meet
A movie star or maybe even an Indian chief
At the car wash
Workin' at the car wash, yeah
Come on and sing it with me
(Car wash)
Sing it with the feelin' y'all
(Car wash, yeah)
Ooh!
Come summer the work gets kinda hot
This ain't no place to be if you planned on bein' a star
Let me tell you it's always cool
And the boss don't mind sometimes if you act a fool
At the car wash
Whoa whoa whoa whoa
Talkin' about the car wash, yeah
Come on, ya'all and sing it for me
(Car wash)
Wooh oooh oooh
(Car wash, yeah)
Well, those cars never seem to stop coming
(Work and work)
Keep those rags and machines humming
(Work and work)
My fingers to the bone
(Work)

Trip to Ikea. International Relations Still Intact!

When I thought about going to Ikea I thought
maybe Grandpa would like the variety
in each of the departments.  Or, he might
like how bright and colorful things
are displayed.
Nope.

Grandpa liked the Swedish Meatballs
with mashed potatoes and the
Lingonberry drink.

He was so set on eating that
I couldn't get him to smile or
even look at me.

There were also a lot of little kids (3 and under) there.
Steve flirted with all of them and made me
stop periodically so he could chat
with one.  The mother's were
very nice about it.

It was a good day for International Relations!

Question: What do you do when you turn 88?

Answer? .....ANYTHING YOU FREAKING WANT!

You start with a chocolate chip muffin and lemon chamomile tea at Noah's Bagels.

...And you finish the muffin with nary a
crumb spilled.

Then we headed over to the Willow Glen Farmer's Market for some fresh strawberries and blueberries.  So sweet!  We love summer fruit.

We had a great lunch with friends but we forgot to take pictures because
we were having so much fun!

Off to San Jose Giants Baseball Game!
Terrible hit!

Can you see the resemblance?

Thanks for the shaded area SJ Giants!

We decided on one candle because 88 requires Fire Department stand-by firemen!

BLOW HARD!
... And Presents!

 More presents.

Steve:  I'm 42.
Me:  Um, no, you're 88!
Steve:  Not possible.
Steve McQueen Marathon!!

Happy Birthday Grandpa!!

Life is Difficult...Not!

I was making dinner and Grandpa came sauntering through.

Grandpa:  Whatcha doin'?
Me:  Making dinner.  We're having chicken enchiladas, queso with sausage, and Spanish rice.
Grandpa:  Okay.
Me:  Okay what?
Grandpa:  I'll stay. (Now walking out the back door.) Oh, bring me a beer.
Me:  Oh, okay.  Thanks for staying. (a little sarcasm)
Grandap:  You're welcome.  And I need some chips.

Don't worry. Be happy!

Steve read Rebekah's latest card
(Thanks Beautiful!)
and became very worried that
she was taking time away from her family
to write to him.

Don't worry.  Be happy.

A Second Career?

I found an Andy Williams DVD.  I think we have a happy camper headed to
Vegas
to make his dancing/singing dream career come true!

Don't Quit Your Day Job!

I was shaving Steve this morning and he started to laugh at me.
  It's true.

I asked him what was so funny.

"You shouldn't quit your day job."

Funny guy.

Hilarious

I wish I had a 360' camera.
You would see Tylor dancing with his
hat the same as Steve's above.
Tylor asked Grandpa how he liked his look.
This was Grandpa's response.
Hilarious.  Seriously.

What's A Selfie?

Steve and I were sitting watching pre-season baseball yesterday.  I was reading text pictures on my phone.  Here was the conversation:

Steve:  What's that?
Me:  My phone?
Steve:  No, what are you doing?
Me:  Looking at selfies someone sent me.
Steve:   What's a selfies?
Me:  It's a picture you take of yourself with your phone.
Steve:  Show me.

Here are the results.  He was laughing at how it worked and seeing himself on the screen.
 Living is fun.

We're Walkin'...or Waitin'.

Steve and I went downtown yesterday because the kids were starving and I never have food in the house that they want to eat.  What is that all about?

We ordered pizza and were told it would be 20 minutes.  We decided to walk around outside since it was such a nice day.  We came back and the pizza wasn't done yet.  So, we got a Coke and waited.

Steve was looking at the placards on the wall.  It was mostly Sharks stuff.  He was reading all of it and commenting on going to Sharks games with Linda once.  Nice memory.

Kondakova: A Little Light Reading

Years ago Steve bought two Kondakova lithographs that hang in his house.  They are beautiful.  When we bought our lithograph we received a coffee table book of her works.  I brought it out yesterday and Steve spent a leisurely hour enjoying the pictures and reading the titles to me.  He was humming to himself when he wasn't talking.  It was a lovely hour.

This is the picture we have in our living room.

Puzzled?

Grandpa asked me for a pen as we were sitting with the paper.
He found a puzzle.
He worked on it for 10 minutes and told me about
what he was doing the entire time.
Puzzles are hard.
:-)
